Wheelock Selects William Rawn Associates for Expansion Project
December 15, 2006Wheelock College has announced that William Rawn Associates, Architects, Inc., of Boston, has been selected to design its new 65,000-square-foot, mixed-use building. This project will include a new Campus Center, a new dining hall along with a new student residence.
A well respected firm, William Rawn Associates has completed a large number of projects, ranging from complex urban buildings to a variety of college campuses including Tufts University, Babson College, Wellesley College, Amherst College and Dartmouth College. The firm is best known for their award winning work on Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood in Lenox, Ma.
“The firm received outstanding references that spoke about the collaborative way in which the firm works with the institutions. Many of the references indicated that Wheelock was fortunate to have William Rawn on their team,” said Roy Schifilliti, Wheelock’s Vice President for Administration and Student Life.
William Rawn Associates has been the recipient of numerous design awards including eight Honor Awards from the National American Institute of Architects.
By 2013, Wheelock College anticipates an increased enrollment from the current 678 to 1,100. This growth will be supported by the construction of 158,000 new square feet on the Wheelock Campus. As proposed in the Institutional Master Plan filed with the Boston Redevelopment Agency the plan consists of three projects including a the new Campus center and Student Residence, a 55,000 square foot East Wing and a 75,000 square-foot West Wing to be built on the site of the college’s historic Riverway House.
