There are approximately 60 computers available for public use in the Library. The Library staff is available to help everyone get the most out of our technology resources; ask any of us for assistance.

The majority of the computers are located on Floors 1 and 1M, as well as in the computer classroom and lab on the Lower Level.  There are 1-2 computers on Floors 2, 2M, 3, 3M, 4, and 4M.   There is also a computer in each of the conference rooms.  Most of our computers run on Windows; there is a Mac-based lab in the Lower Level. 

Available Software

The following software is available on the public computers:

  • Microsoft Office
    • 2010 (Windows system)
    • 2011 (Mac system)
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Bridge, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop)
    • Currently, the only the Lower Level small computer lab has the following Creative Cloud software: After Effects, Audition, Edge Animate, Edge Code, Edge Inspect, Edge Reflow, InCopy, Lightroom, Muse, Prelude, Premiere Pro, and Scout
  • Statistical software: SPSS, Fathom 2, GeoGegra, GSP5, Hoboware, Lgger Lite 1.8, R, RStudio, and Tinkerplots
  • ArtStor OIV
  • Compuscore - on the Floor 2 computers and 2-Hour Laptops

Saving files

Please save files regularly when you work. Files may be saved only as described below. Files saved to any other location on the computer will be deleted nightly and also when the computer is logged out or rebooted.

  • When working in the Windows system
    • Save files to a USB drive or email them to yourself
    • Save files to your OneDrive
  • When working in the Mac system
    • Save files to a USB drive or email them to yourself
    • On Log Out, all files in the user's Home folder will be deleted
    • Machine will log out automatically after 45 idle minutes

Conference Room Technology Podiums

The Library's conference rooms on Floors 2M and 3M are each equipped with a technology cabinet containing a Mac-mini that boots into a PC operating system.   There are also connectors available for projecting laptop screens. 


The Wheelock College Library has two computer labs on the Lower Level with workstations available for students, faculty, and staff. The labs are open during all Library hours.

Faculty and staff may also reserve the labs for class use, using the Campus Services Room Reservation form.


The Library has two Windows PC laptops available for two-hour loans for use within the Library.  To learn more, visit the Technology to Borrow page.

Technical Assistance

If you need technical assistance, please contact the Information Technology Department by submitting a support request.  They can assist you with laptop repair, virus and spyware removal, document recovery, and email.
