Borrowing Policies for Alumni
How can I get a Library card?
Wheelock College alumni may get a Library card at no cost. Please visit the Service Desk or call 617-879-2222 for more information.
What can I take out of the Library, and for how long?
Present your Library card at the Service Desk to check out the following items.

Please note that users assume full responsibility for all borrowed items. Lost, stolen, or damaged items must be paid for or replaced.
What can’t I take out of the Library?
Wheelock alumni are not eligible to check out the following items:
- DVDs/Videos (all collections; may be viewed inside the Library)
- Technology Equipment, including laptops and projectors.
- Tests and Assessments
- Print Periodicals (may be used inside the Library)
- Reference Books (may be used inside the Library)
- Reserve Books
- Archives (may be used inside the Library)
How do I access the library's electronic databases?
Alumni may access electronic databases while on-campus at the Library. Due to license agreements, alumni are not able to access electronic databases remotely.
How do I renew items?
Go to My Account in the Library catalog.
- By phone
Call the Service Desk at 617-879-2222.
- In person
Stop by the Service Desk.
Overdue items may not be renewed. They must be returned to the library and checked in before being checked out again.
If you keep an item for longer than its stated loan period, you will receive overdue notices via email until the item is returned.
We do not charge overdue fees (with the exception of overdue Tests and Assessments), but once an item has been overdue for one month it is automatically considered lost and replacement fees are applied. All fees are waived once the item is returned.
If you lose or damage an item, you will be billed for the full replacement cost. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org, if you have any questions.
I can’t find what I need…
If an item is listed as available in our catalog but you cannot find it on the shelves, please let a Service Desk employee know right away. We will conduct a search for the item and let you know when it is located.
Please note that Wheelock alumni are not eligible for Interlibrary Loan services.
Boston Public Library
All Massachusetts residents are eligible for borrowing privileges at the Boston Public Library. All you need are picture identification and proof of your current address in the form of postmarked mail, bills, or a lease.
The BPL also offers eCards, virtual library cards that allow users immediate entry to all of Boston Public Library's remotely-accessible electronic resources, including magazine databases, downloadable audio, video, e-books, and music.
