Wheelock Gender Identity Statement
February 27, 2017
Statement to members of the Wheelock College Community from:
David J., Chard, Ph.D., President
Barbara Morgan, Dean of Students
Erin Sullivan, Title IX Coordinator
On Wednesday February 22, 2017, the Trump Administration rescinded federal guidance issued in May 2016 that recognized the right of transgender students nationwide to use bathrooms corresponding with their gender identity. This revocation is inconsistent with the Wheelock College philosophy and runs counter to Massachusetts law, which prohibits discrimination and harassment based on gender identity.
Wheelock College will remain committed to respecting and protecting the gender identity of all persons. With this in mind, we encourage community members to seek information and engage in conversation to learn more about how this decision and other similar policies impact transgender people across the country.

Wheelock will continue to strive to be a place where people feel safe and valued because of how they identify, not in spite of it.
