Student Financial Aid Advocacy Day
April 01, 2014
Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo (D-Winthrop) and Senator Sal DiDomenico (D-Everett) addressed more than 175 students from Massachusetts colleges and universities on February 24, at the State House. Both the Speaker and the Senator emphasized the critical importance of higher education and the need for increased financial aid.
"It's a pleasure to meet with college students and AICUM," Speaker Robert A. DeLeo said. "The House is focused on creating opportunity for Massachusetts students. I'm proud we increased financial aid by $3 million in last year's budget, and we will continue to provide support so that students have the competitive edge they need to thrive in the Commonwealth's dynamic economy."
Senator DiDomenico noted that his college experience had given him the chance to pursue a life of public service. He emphasized that "we need to make sure sufficient need-based financial aid is available so that students who can't afford college are able to achieve their educational goals and ultimately pursue whatever career interests them the most."
