City Year and AmeriCorps Alumni Partnership
Wheelock College is proud to partner with City Year and AmeriCorps to offer scholarships to selected Wheelock undergraduate and graduate students who spend a year serving as AmeriCorps or City Year corps members. Wheelock annually awards up to 10 undergraduate scholarships that provide $15,000 of financial assistance to each new student in addition to five graduate scholarships that provide a 25-percent overall tuition discount.
The missions of the three organizations are closely aligned. City Year and AmeriCorps unite young people of all backgrounds to serve as tutors, mentors, and role models for children in grades three through nine to keep them in school and on track to graduate. Wheelock is dedicated to improving the lives of all children and families, a mission embodied in the work of our idealistic students and alumni. Wheelock students provide an estimated 100,000 hours of service annually to the community through field experiences in more than 230 organizations. More than 19,000 alumni are engaged around the world and across the social services spectrum as teachers, social workers, nonprofit leaders, juvenile advocates, and more.
