Marianne Adams is a teaching artist whose primary interest is the integration of the arts into all aspects of children's lives. She worked for over 30 years as an Artist in Residence through various agencies, traveling to schools all over Massachusetts as a drama teacher, storyteller, and program developer. She has also served as an Arts Specialist and Humanities Teacher in the Boston Public Schools. As a member of the Cambridge Public Schools Drama Collaborative from 1997-2006 she helped design and implement training and support systems for over 100 teachers in the use of drama in the curriculum. She has presented to the NELMS conference several times on various topics concerning the development of integrated, multi-disciplinary curriculums, at the Wheelock College's Global Challenges and Opportunities Facing Children, Youth and Families Conference, and has sat on panels for NALC, BPS, VSA, and Lesley University. She continues to consult and work with teachers to develop integrated curriculums; locally and nationally.
Currently she is a full-time instructor in the arts at Wheelock College, teaching courses in Improvisation, Intro to Theater, Movement and Drama for Children, History of Dramatic Literature, Modern Drama, Public Speaking, Staged Readings, Intro to the Arts, Arts and Creativity/Arts and Social Justice, Folktales in Writing and Performance, Arts and Inclusion, Teaching Social Studies and Intro to American Government. She also teaches as an adjunct at Lesley University in the school of Education's Creative Arts Division; courses taught include- Arts Approach to Teaching Literacy and the Common Core, Drama and Critical Literacy, Educator Inquiry:Thesis and Seminar, Internship Seminar
In addition, she is the Audience Engagement Coordinator for the Wheelock Family Theater and is in her 7th year of working with VSA of Massachusetts on a residency and professional development programs. She also is a consultant with WGBH on the cartoon program Pinkalicious.
