Recommended Resources

  • Website:  Free, online/downloadable text can be found at: National Reading Panel website. Online Reading: Armbruster, B, Lehr, F.,  & Osborn,  J.  (2001). Put Reading First: the Research Building Blocks for Teaching Children to Read. This free, online resource is excellent and provides an outline of the research guidelines upon which the MTEL is based.
  • Book: "Reading First in the Classroom," by Diane Barone, Darrin Hardman, Joan Taylor.  Boston, Mass. : Pearson, c2006. This book is available at the Wheelock Library.
  • It is highly recommended that all students complete all literacy course work:
    • EDU 327 & EDU 328
    • EDU 337 & EDU 338
    • RDG 537
    • AND then take the Prep session EDU335/RDG535
Students are discouraged from "trying out" the Foundations of Reading test. Please contact you advisor to discuss the timing of your Foundations of Reading MTEL exam.
