Youth Summit to Build on Tutu Visit

November 28, 2008

Wheelock College will continue its “Ubuntu in the Works” program with the Second Annual Youth Community Leadership Summit on November 21.

Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s visit to Wheelock in October 2007. Last year’s discussion with Archbishop Tutu focused on the effects of youth violence on the city of Boston, as well as the healing potential of truth, reconciliation, and ubuntu.

Ubuntu is an African philosophy that offers insight into human relationships. Translated, ubuntu means “I am because you are,” which allows us to understand that we are all interconnected.

This year, the summit will focus on the theme of identity and the question, “Are you Ubuntu?”

Time: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Location: Ladd Room, 43 Hawes St., Brookline, MA
