Victoria Rowell Book Signing
May 07, 2007Victoria Rowell will be at Wheelock College on May 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. to unveil her new memoir, The Women Who Raised Me.
Rowell is a celebrated ballet dancer and theatrical, primetime, daytime and feature film actress. She has twice been nominated for a Daytime Emmy and is the recipient of 11 NAACP Image awards.
Born a ward of the state of Portland, Maine, Rowell was raised through a series of adoptions and foster care facilities for 18 years. Her memoir recounts her astonishing experiences and pays tribute to various mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, teachers, mentors and personal champions who helped to shape her into the successful actress, wonderful mother and philanthropist she is today.
Rowell is the Founder and Board Chair of the Rowell Foster Children Positive Plan (RFCPP), a scholarship fund designed to help foster children thrive through fine arts, sports and cultural enrichment. She was selected by one hundred and ninety three members of Congress as a 'Congressional Angel in Adoption' and has been serving for many years as the national spokesperson for the Annie E. Casey Foundation/Casey Family Services/Casey Family Programs. In 2006, Rowell was the proud recipient of an honorary degree from Wheelock College for her foster care efforts in the national arena.
