Governor Deval Patrick introduced Archbishop Desmond Tutu to the Wheelock
College community by highlighting Tutu’s spiritual approach to mediation
in the face of violence and oppression. Patrick said, “The example of
Archbishop Tutu shows us that if we move beyond the cycles of retribution
and blame, reconciliation, understanding and hope waits on the other side.” The
Governor held up Tutu’s peaceful and compassionate ministry as a model
for local communities to heal divisions and foster solidarity.
