A Wheelock education will thoroughly prepare your student for success - both professionally and personally. Students have the flexibility to mix and match majors, minors, and other educational opportunities. And with Wheelock's participation in the Colleges of the Fenway consortium, your student can take courses at five neighboring schools.

Students also immerse themselves in hands-on field experiences at schools, hospitals, and community agencies. The College emphasizes diverse and inclusive field work settings that build students' capacity to become professionals who work effectively with children and families. Wheelock graduates are highly regarded and very much in demand in some of the fastest-growing professions, such as social work, education, and juvenile justice.
Aside from a unique and specialized education, student involvement is another hallmark of the Wheelock College experience. Students participate in a wide variety of activities and take advantage of the many exciting opportunities outside of the classroom - ranging from club activities and seminars to athletic events and leadership development. Through participation in Student Government and other extracurricular clubs, students are able to express their voices, reach their fullest potential, and contribute to the quality of life on campus.
Student Life Overview
Philosophy: The Student Life department—which consists of Residence Life, Counseling, Athletics, and Student Activities and Leadership Programs—empowers your student to engage, connect and act in ways that will inspire a world of good. Student Life's philosophy is to be an advocate for student welfare, success, engagement, civility, and responsibility.
Housing: Wheelock's six residence halls offer unique, comfortable, and inclusive environments in which to live and learn. Each residence hall has ample measures to ensure student safety and communication, such as 24-hour card access, wireless connectivity, emergency phones, a professional live-in staff member, and a team of trained Resident Assistants.
Activities: Joining one of Wheelock's many clubs and organizations is a great way for students to become confident, knowledgeable, capable stewards of change who are prepared to serve, lead, and succeed in a variety of careers.
Advising: The Office of Academic Advising consists of three professional staff—two advisors assigned to cover all students in their first or second year, and a director—along with nearly a dozen student advisors. At the end of sophomore year, students will be connected with a faculty member in their major field of study who will advise them for their junior and senior years. Students who transfer to Wheelock are assigned a professional advisor for their first semester; for subsequent semesters transfer students are reassigned to a faculty advisor as well. Visit the Academic Services web page for information about the many services and programs available to assist students.
Office of Student Success: The Office of Student Success uses a developmental philosophy and holistic approach to empower students and alumni to reach their educational, professional, and personal goals. Students and alumni are assisted in identifying and reaching these goals through assessment, determining appropriate steps, and utilizing available resources. Student Success is concerned not only with a specific personal or vocational decision but also with facilitating environmental and interpersonal interactions, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Our programs foster engagement in educationally purposeful activities, lifelong learning and shared responsibility.
