The late Jennifer Lee Stowers '02 brimmed with passion for educating children, for integrating music into young lives, and for addressing social justice issues. In honor of her dedication to improving the lives of children and families, her family has established an endowed scholarship fund that will benefit Wheelock students. The Jennifer Stowers Quintal Teacher Development Scholarship Fund offers up to $4,000 in grant money each year "for educators who aspire to be more accomplished, more motivated, and more effective teachers. The goal for them is to become the best teachers they can be in order to better serve their students, family, and communities.
In awarding the scholarship each year, Wheelock will give preference to graduate students pursuing their professional careers. Upon announcing the scholarship, Stowers' mother, Ellen Stowers, said, "This endowment is a way to support other like-minded, energetic, and passionate professionals who choose to follow Jennifer's lead in serving inner-city children, families, and communities. Our hope is that these students will experience the same sense of purpose and joy that Jennifer experienced in her work."
