Dwight Datcher Named Director of Athletics

Following a nationwide search, Dwight Datcher has been named Director of Athletics at Wheelock College, effective March 5th. Datcher will provide direction and oversight for all intercollegiate, intramural and recreational athletics staff, programs, facilities and activities-including 120 Men's and Women's NCAA Division III student-athletes participating in five sports for men and six sports for women.

Datcher possesses an extensive athletics background with over twenty years of experience as a coach and athletics administrator combined with proven marketing skills, having served as Director of Marketing at RBK Construction. Previously, he served as Athletics Director at Howard University. During his four-year tenure, he bolstered programs to assist student-athletes' academic progress and ensure superior quality of life experience for student-athletes. Datcher also oversaw fundraising, summer athletic camps and radio and television sports broadcasting ventures.
Before joining Howard University, Datcher served in Associate Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director roles at Georgetown University, during which he directed six sports programs, supervised facilities and served as event manager for all on-campus activities. Prior to his arrival at Georgetown, he also served as Athletics Director at University of the District of Colombia and Roger Williams University. Additionally, Datcher sat on the bench as an Assistant Coach under Hall of Fame basketball Coach John Thompson in the mid 1970s.

As part of his role as Director of Athletics, Datcher will work directly with the Office of Enrollment services, Student Success and Faculty to ensure that an integrated athletic recruitment and retention effort is maintained, communicated and supported at all levels of the institution. He will also make certain that appropriate athletic department policies, procedures and practices are in place and are consistent with all College policies, and state and federal laws, including Title IX.
Datcher received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Roger Williams University.
