Mattapan's Mattahunt Wheelock Partnership Community Center will soon develop a college and career readiness program, thanks in part to a $15,000 grant.

The money, provided by the Hamilton Charitable Company, the charitable wing of the Boston-based real estate agency, will aid in the development of a comprehensive series of programs to support the Mattapan community and its young students.

"The beginning stages of building a successful future for a young person require thoughtful consideration of the resources and opportunities he or she has at their disposal," Rashad Cope, the director of the center, said in a statement. "Creating pathways for college and career readiness has proven to be an essential element in the foundational stages of student success."

Dubbed the "Center for Readiness," the initiative will create a series of age-based college and career readiness programs and services for youth in grades 4-12. In addition to the youth programs, a number of support programs will also be developed for parents, families, and other adults.

The new program is a boost for the center that was originally closed in 2010 because of budget restraints. Luckily a partnership between Wheelock College and the City of Boston was formed and it reopened in 2011. Now close to 200 area families are served by the Hebron Street center, according to the center.
