Computers

There are approximately 60 computers available for public use in the Library. The Library staff is available to help everyone get the most out of our technology resources; ask any of us for assistance.

The majority of the computers are located on Floors 1 and 1M, as well as in the computer classroom and lab in the Lower Level.  There are 1-2 computer stations on Floors 2M, 3, 3M, 4, and 4M.   The Macintosh computers on the Lower Level and Floors 1M, 2M, 3M, and 4 run on both Mac and Windows systems.  There is also a computer in each of the conference rooms.  The computers are the Mac-minis attached to the large technology podium and can run on both Mac and Windows systems.

Available Software

The following software is available on all computers:

  • Microsoft Office
    • 2010 (Windows system)
    • 2011 (Mac system)
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Alice
  • Firefox
  • Sketchpad
  • Tinkerplots
  • SPSS
Saving files

Please save files regularly when you work. Files may be saved only as described below. Files saved to any other location on the computer will be deleted nightly and also when the computer is logged out or rebooted.

  • When working in the Windows system
    • Save files to a USB drive or email them to yourself
    • Save files to the "T:\ (Thaw Space)" drive or "T Drive" Library
      • Go to File\Save As and select "ThawSpace" under "Computer " on the left of the screen
    • Files in the T:\ drive will be deleted at the end of each semester
  • When working in the Mac system
    • Save files to a USB drive or email them to yourself
    • On Log Out, all files in the user's Home folder will be deleted
    • Machine will log out automatically after 45 idle minutes
Labs

The Wheelock College Library has two computer labs on the Lower Level with workstations available for students, faculty, and staff. The labs are open during all Library hours.

Faculty and staff may also reserve the labs for class use, using the Campus Services Room Reservation form.
