Wheelock Alum Wins Today Show Contest
March 25, 2013
Wheelock graduate Kayla Drescher was named the winner of The Today Show's "Magic Mondays" competition by world-renowned magician David Copperfield this morning on the National Broadcasting Company (NBC). As the winner, Drescher and a guest will be flown to Las Vegas to see Copperfield's show at the MGM Grand and also receive a behind the scenes tour of his museum.
Copperfield has been hosting "Magic Mondays" throughout the month of March. Part of this was a magic competition where magicians from all over could send in a video of an original magic routine; something no one else has seen or is performing. Three finalists were brought to the Today Show and competed live for Copperfield this morning.
Drescher has been performing magic since she was just seven years old and, after graduating from Wheelock last spring with a degree in Mathematics/Science and Performing Arts, has been creating and developing various original routines. She performs regularly, doing parlor shows in the Boston area.
The Wallingford, CT, native played three years for the women's basketball team and two for the women's lacrosse squad. She finished her career as the school's career leader with 80 blocked shots and ranks third on the Wildcats' all-time rebounding list with 466 rebounds. Drescher also played on Wheelock's inaugural women's lacrosse team and was a Co-Captain.
