Benefit Summary for Benefit-Eligible Members
Benefit Eligibility
Full-time Wheelock employees and those part-time employees specifically designated as half-time-or-more are eligible for benefits. Any exceptions are noted in the brief summaries below. (Eligibility does not extend to adjunct faculty or casual status staff and administration.)
Health Insurance
Immediate (first day) eligibility and coverage available. The College contributes 60% of the premium, the employees 40% through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis for individual and family plans. Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HPHC) HMO Plan and Tufts Health Plan (TUFTS) HMO are offered. The enrollment period extends for 30 days from initial start date and is effective on date of hire. Enrollment changes may be made in January each year for February 1st coverage, or at the time of a documented qualifying event (i.e., marriage, divorce, birth, death, spouse's loss of coverage).
Dental Plan
Voluntary plan available; benefit-eligible employees pay full premium. Initial enrollment eligibility extends 30 days from date of hire. Open Enrollment is held each year in April for May 1st coverage. Premiums are deducted for paychecks on a pre-tax basis. Some waiting periods for full coverage apply. Policy with Guardian.
Flexible Spending Pre Tax Accounts
For out-of-pocket medical expense and/or dependent care expenses.
Group Life Insurance
100% College paid. Three times annual base salary to $500K maximum. Includes additional AD&D coverage, at the same maximum amount as Group Life.
Wheelock Course Tuition Waiver
Eligible after one calendar year of benefit-eligible service. One course per semester at Wheelock. Employee only.
Colleges of the Fenway (COF) Cross-Registration
Full-time Wheelock employees with one or more years of service may cross-register at one of the other COF for an undergraduate course in place of a course at Wheelock each semester. The COF program is a pilot at the present time and does not include graduate courses.
Tuition Remission for Undergraduate Children
Full tuition for matriculated undergraduate dependent children of full-time Wheelock employees. Eight consecutive semesters; fees such as room and board not included. Available to full-time only.
Tuition Exchange Programs for Undergraduate Children.
Wheelock participates in two scholarship exchange programs with other Colleges and Universities: The Tuition Exchange Program (www.tuitionexchange.org) and The Council of Independent Colleges Tuition Exchange (www.cic.edu). See the websites for participating institutions. There are limits to the numbers who can participate, and there are no guarantees of acceptance. Full-time employees only.
Business Travel Accident Insurance
100% College paid for those who travel for Wheelock College.
TIAA CREF Retirement Plan
Eligible upon completion of one calendar year of benefit-eligible service, age 25 or older. Prior year educational or non-profit work experience may provide immediate eligibility. Wheelock will match, dollar for dollar, employee pre-tax contributions from 1% to 5%. The combined contribution is a maximum of 10% of W2 earnings. 100% vesting is immediate.
TIAA CREF Group Supplemental Retirement Plan
Benefit-eligible employees are immediately eligible and may make pre-tax contributions up to the annual limits set by the Internal Revenue Service. No waiting period or age requirement for enrollment.
Emeriti Retirement Health Solutions
Designed to assist with preparation for health care expenses in retirement and open to full-time employees age 40 and older. This is a two-part program, the first to create a mechanism for savings for health care expenses in retirement and the second to provide national health Medicare supplement insurance coverage options upon retirement.
Long Term Disability Insurance
Available to full-time employees only. Immediate (first day) eligibility. Premiums shared 50/50 between the employee and the College. Provides 60% of base salary due to disability after 90-day waiting period, and, if enrolled in TIAA CREF Retirement Plan, includes the employee's retirement contribution. Enrollment open for 30 days from date of eligibility, after which time a Statement of Health is required. Fortis/Assurant Insurance.
Short Term Disability Insurance
Voluntary, portable plan available; employee pays full premium. Premiums vary with terms selected. Colonial Insurance.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
100% College paid. Resource and referral line pre-paid for employees' calls regarding a wide range of personal issues and concerns as well as work and family matters. The Wellness Corporation.
Direct Deposit
For benefit-eligible employees.
T Pass or On-Campus Parking
Wheelock subsidizes 75% of your monthly bus, T, train, or combo pass. For those who drive, a parking tag is $300.00 per year for full-time and $150 per year for part-time employees for on-campus parking as available.
Paid Holidays, Vacation, Sick Days
Paid: 11 Holidays, 2 personal days, 12 sick days, either 3 or 4 weeks paid vacation per year (depending on position and length of service) and also, the week between Christmas and New Years when the College is closed. Faculty members are paid throughout the 10-month academic year which includes most Holidays and other paid time when the College is closed.
