Pilot Healthcare Academy Launched
July 22, 2010
Children and families in urban and rural areas alike share the problems of healthcare services that are lacking or inadequate for their needs. This summer, Wheelock and Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT, are working together to help address the challenges of healthcare workforce development by launching a new Healthcare Academy program. The Academy is an intensive one-credit program of study geared toward high-achieving juniors that provides a unique opportunity for participants to learn about and even practice healthcare in urban and rural contexts. Spanning two weeks and one weekend on both campuses, students will examine an essential healthcare question in-depth and work to uncover its solution by practicing in clinical sites, in a simulation laboratory setting, and at several science laboratory sites.
