On Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at 6:00 p.m., Wheelock hosted its third Passion for Action Leadership Award Dinner at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum Boston.  Being honored this year were Dr. Carol Johnson, Superintendent of Boston Public Schools, and Dr. Linda Nathan, Founder and Co-Headmaster of Boston Arts Academy, with the 2011 Passion for Action Leadership Award. Karen Keating Ansara, co-founder of The Haiti Fund and Ansara Family Fund at the Boston Foundation, was the keynote speaker.

The Passion for Action Leadership Award Dinner aims to raise the profile of Wheelock in the Boston community while celebrating the spirit of the College through our students and those who support our mission. Wheelock is hoping to build on the great success of the 2007 event, where the College honored Chris Gabrieli, and the 2009 event, where we honored The Lowell Family, for their contributions to their communities.

With the funds raised through the 2007 event, the College created the Passion for Action Scholarship Program for outstanding first-year Wheelock students from Greater Boston. These four-year scholarships are given to students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and involvement. The scholarship is paired with a unique academic program that will develop these students' leadership and community service skills. In September 2008, the first five Passion Scholars joined the Wheelock College Class of 2012 and we have since welcomed another 13 Scholars. Wheelock plans to award additional scholarships each year. The proceeds from the 2011 Passion for Action Leadership Award Dinner will support the growth of this special scholarship program.
