"Be brave, for there is much to dare."
- Wheelock College Founder Lucy Wheelock
Wheelock College officially launched an unprecedented $80 million Campaign for Wheelock—the College's largest capital fundraising initiative ever—at a special evening of celebration held at the WGBH studios in Boston on October 12, 2011. The kickoff event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Wheelock’s vitality; to recognize the contributions to society made by our community of students, faculty, alumni, and friends; and affirm our shared values and mission.

More than a century ago, Lucy Wheelock dared to open a new school in Boston to prepare young women to teach kindergarten—a revolutionary educational idea at the time. As Wheelock College's 125th anniversary in 2013 approaches, we have many accomplishments to celebrate. From a small school with a first graduating class of 12, Wheelock has grown to be a national and world leader in higher education, preparing not only early childhood educators but also human services and child life professionals, juvenile justice advocates, and policy leaders—in all, 18,000 graduates dedicated to serving society by improving the lives of children and families.
Wheelock is a strong and purposeful learning community, growing stronger. Inspired by the College's founding principles and mission, we are expanding our vision to encompass a full range of disciplines and programs devoted to the education and needs of children and families in the 21st century. We are growing our undergraduate and graduate enrollment and attracting ever more talented and dedicated students. We are developing new leadership opportunities for the College and its faculty. And we are extending our reach and reputation in the world with new international partnerships, service learning programs, and distance learning capabilities.
In today's world, the need is great for leaders with vision, passion, and the ability to inspire positive change. No higher education institution is better prepared or more deeply committed to educate and advocate for children and families than Wheelock College. You can help to realize our mission in this century by joining the Campaign for Wheelock.
This is an exciting time to be making history at Wheelock, a time when the College is strong and ready to move forward to the next level of achievement and growth. The Campaign for Wheelock will be a transformational undertaking, creating new resources and opportunities that will have a profound impact on the College’s future and on its mission well into the 21st century.
