Emerging Scholars Program
June 11, 2014
Dr. Detris Honora Adelabu, Associate Professor of Human Development in Wheelock's School of Arts & Sciences, was named Director of the new Emerging Scholars Program at Wheelock College.
As Director, Adelabu will continue her commitment to the creation of a deliberate pipeline to undergraduate research opportunities and graduate school admission for underserved and underrepresented students. She will also:
- Build out initiatives of ongoing faculty mentorship and intensive academic and professional preparation activities aimed at preparing students for admission to and successful completion of graduate school;
- Partner with existing Wheelock programs, like Passion for Action and the Honors Program, to leverage high impact activities that foster academic achievement; and
- Advance academic partnerships for Wheelock that benefit its students.
The creation of the Emerging Scholars Program and the appointment of Adelabu as its first Director formalizes Wheelock's commitment to and support for preparing students of color for acceptance into summer research and graduate programs at prestigious institutions such as Purdue, Northwestern, Michigan State, The Ohio State University, and elsewhere.
