Diversity and Inclusion at Wheelock
Welcome from President David J. Chard, Ph.D.
The Wheelock community is committed to achievement, integrity, mutual respect, multiculturalism and diversity, and social justice with a global perspective. These elements are all essential to achieving the College's mission to improve the lives of children and families. Progress has been made in creating a focus on social justice, equity, intersectional diversity, and inclusion on our campus. However, like all colleges and universities across the United States, we still have much work to do. This is why I have made diversity and inclusion a priority of my Presidency.
I am pleased to work directly with the Institutional Diversity and Inclusion Council (IDIC) to continue its work in institutionalizing policies and procedures that will improve the campus climate towards inclusion over the short and long-terms; in educating our community; and in evaluating our continued progress towards equity in social justice.
There are number of key offices and positions that work to advance institutional diversity, equity and inclusion at Wheelock, including the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, the Office of Human Resources, the Office of Access and Disability Resources, the Title IX Coordinator and the Senior Director of Government and External Affairs and Community Impact. Please find further information about these offices and their work within this site. While these offices and staff members have an official role in moving Wheelock forward on a daily basis, I consider diversity, equity and inclusion the work of all students, staff, faculty and administrators at Wheelock College. As you will see on the site, Wheelock supports a number of engagement opportunities to this end, such as professional development, employee and student affinity groups/clubs, cultural celebrations, diversity and inclusion focused activities and events, multicultural and meditation spaces, and more.
Wheelock is a community of learners and we all have much to learn about the ways in which we can contribute to a welcoming, inclusive environment. I invite all members of the Wheelock community to engage together in this work and to make it an integral part of achieving our mission.
