May 17, 2013
Mitchell Sakofs, currently the dean of the school of education and professional studies at Central Connecticut State University, has been named Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Programs at Wheelock College, the college announced Thursday.
Sakofs will begin with Wheelock on August 1.
The school that Sakofs will lead has more than 500 undergrads and 460 graduate students and includes undergraduate programs in education, child life, family studies, juvenile justice and youth advocacy, leadership and policy, and social work.
At Central Connecticut State University, Sakofs led more than 80 full time faculty and administrators in eight academic departments and three administrative offices, Wheelock said in a press release. In his role, he launched new entrepreneurial programming, including new graduate programs related to community needs in education and in nursing.
Sakofs was attracted to the position at Wheelock "because of Wheelock's excellent reputation and mission; however, the people I met while interviewing helped me see clearly that the match was right. I could not only be of service, but I had found an academic home," the press release said.
