International Advisory Board Membership
The Center for International Education, Leadership, and Innovation established an International Advisory Board in 2002. It is composed of two units: an internal International Administrative Team and an external International Advisory Board. Members are selected from the board of trustees, administration and faculty of Wheelock College or are well respected and highly esteemed professionals from beyond the Wheelock community.
International Administrative Team
The four-member International Administrative
Team is composed of Wheelock’s President and several Vice Presidents
who assess and advise the Director on the Center’s evolving global
offerings. Along with the Director of the Center, this group makes
up the Center’s senior management team. The Director of the
Center reports to the Wheelock President and to the Vice President
for Academic Affairs and regularly consults with the Dean of Education
and the All-College Curriculum Committee regarding curriculum issues.
The International Administrative Team meets periodically to assure quality control of the programs and to advocate for international education programs. The Director of the Center works individually with team members in their particular areas of expertise and experience and provides monthly activity reports to the International Administrative Team. This group assumes a range of responsibilities including ongoing systematic planning and evaluation, comprehension and advocacy of the Center’s initiatives and assurance that all international endeavors follow the same review process and adhere to the same standards as on-campus programs. The International Administrative Team assists and supports the Center in the preparation of documents for various accrediting agencies. Members of the International Administrative Team are:

External International Advisory Board
The external component of the International Advisory Board, which currently has fifteen members, includes members of Wheelock College’s Board of Trustees, Wheelock College alumni and professionals involved in international endeavors. The external International Advisory Board is an essential part of the Center’s objective to be the pre eminent institution in the field of international education. Its members are accomplished leaders who are well positioned to promote Wheelock College’s excellence. The external International Advisory Board members are:

- Dr. Allan S. Bufferd, Former Treasurer, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

- Dr. Patricia Hogan, Professor of Social Work, Wheelock College (Faculty Representative)
- Ms. Susan Kosoff, Professor of Theatre Arts and Producer of the Wheelock Family Theatre, Wheelock College
- Mr. Edward H. Ladd, Chairman, Standish Mellon Asset Management
- Dr. Alice H. Lichtenstein, Stanley N. Gershoff Professor of Nutrition Science and Policy, Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Tufts University
- Dr. Ioannis (Yannis) Miaoulis, President and Director of the Museum of Science, Boston
- Dr. William D. Putt, Director, Capital Region Work Force Development Board; Co-Chairman, Capital Region Work Force Development Board Services Provision Committee
- Dr. Stanley Rumbaugh, Former Vice President for Administration and Finance, Wheelock College
- Ms. Barbara G. Sallick, Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of Design, Waterworks
- The Honorable L. Milton Scott, Former Bermuda Minister of Education and Development and is now Director of Labour in the Ministry of Home Affairs in Bermuda
- Mr. Glenn P. Strehle, Treasurer Emeritus, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and one of the creators of MITWorld
- Dr. Aline Wong, Chairman of the Housing and Development Board, Singapore and former professor of sociology at the National University of Singapore.

Roles and Responsibilities
The International Advisory Board serves as a resource to the Director
and staff of the Center for International Education, Leadership,
and Innovation, to the Wheelock College President and to the Board of
Trustees as they work to guide the development of Wheelock College
and the Center. The Board also provides leverage for the Center as
it develops strategies to expand its collaborative efforts globally.
International Advisory Board members participate in the formulation
of the Center’s long-term goals and objectives, provide counsel,
assist in acquiring or suggesting funding sources and support the
building of key relationships.
The purpose and responsibilities of the
International Advisory Board are:
- To serve formally and informally in an advisory capacity to Wheelock College administration and to the Director and staff of the Center for International Education, Leadership, and Innovation; and to develop strategies to achieve the Center’s long-range goals and objectives
- To form a group of people who are knowledgeable about the Center and can serve as articulate global representatives of the Center among associates and colleagues
- To open doors, whenever feasible, to countries and markets where members have had experience and to provide advice, support and contact information for individuals and groups that may be interested in the Center’s endeavors
- To ensure that Wheelock College institutionalizes a system to respond rapidly and deliver new academic courses and programs that have integrity and can be implemented with high standards in a timely manner
- To assist in the integration of the most relevant and cutting-edge knowledge into current programs and to recommend ways to further develop and institutionalize the Center
- To assist in the creation of innovative professional development programs that have the potential to develop into associate of science, bachelor of science and master of science degree programs to be offered globally
- To understand the cultural differences between an institution such as Wheelock College and an external environment where priorities may differ
- To expand and build relationships with international alumni and encourage the exchange and sharing of knowledge
- To help evaluate opportunities for expanding technology capabilities and for other methods to deliver courses more effectively.
