ELEMENTARY EDUCATION JOB MARKET

Employment opportunities in the education field are expected to increase.  Several factors will contribute to the increased need for teachers, including the large number of retirements of current teachers, an increase in student enrollments, and the identification of more categories of students needing assistance.  Teachers who are willing to relocate and who obtain certification in more than one subject are more likely to have a significant advantage in their job search.  In some geographic locations, including Massachusetts, math, science, special education, and bilingual education have been designated as critical need areas.  In these areas, educators with these specializations will be the most sought after by school districts.
