SERVICE TRIP TO SAFE PASSAGE IN GUATEMALA
Team Leader:
 Wheelock College Alumni Association Board
Date: Week-long trip begins April 14, 2013
Time: N/A
Location: Safe Passage in Guatemala City
Description of Project: Wheelock alumni-and their family members-are invited to travel to Safe Passage in Guatemala for a week of service and experiential learning. Many alumni know that Hanley Denning '96MS founded Safe Passage to transform the lives of children and families living in extreme poverty near the Guatemala City garbage dump several years before her accidental death in 2007. Thanks to dedicated staff, fundraisers, and volunteers who are continuing Hanley's work, Safe Passage is indeed transforming lives. In addition to meeting project leaders, families, and children, participants in the Guatemala trip will learn about Safe Passage's programs in early childhood education, adult literacy, and educational reinforcement, as well as the organization's new initiatives in social entrepreneurship. No experience or skills are required; many diverse volunteer groups travel to serve Safe Passage, and there are many ways to help while learning. A cost of $595 includes lodging, meals, and local transportation. Airfare and a suggested $200 donation are not included.
Special Notes: Interested alumni should visit the Safe Passage website to learn more, www.safepassage.org, and then contact the Alumni Office at 617-879-2328.
