PROFESSIONAL CLOTHING DRIVE FOR YEAR UP

Description: Are you planning to do any spring cleaning during Spring Break? As a kick-off to Wheelock World Service Weekend, the Alumni Association Board and the Office of Development & Alumni Relations are coordinating a professional clothing drive on campus for Year Up Boston. Year Up's mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education. (We are proud to have a Year Up intern working in our office this semester!) Since the Year Up interns have job placements at corporations and organizations in and around Boston, they need to look the part. Can you part with any gently-used (and clean) professional attire?

BERMUDA ALUMNI PROJECT - BAG FOR DAD INITIATIVE

Description:
Alumni in Bermuda are encouraged to support the Razors and Diapers Bag for Dad's Initiative.  http://blog.razorsanddiapers.com/bag-for-dad-initiative/ Visit a Brown & Co. Bookmart, purchase a baby book, identify yourself as a Wheelock alumna/us, leave the book in a marked box, and fill out the form provided. All donated books will be given to the Bags for Dad's initiative to provide educational tools and resources for new fathers. 

DREAMFAR

Time: Most runs start around 8:00am; ending time depends on distance of the run (usually between 11:00am and 1:00pm

Description: Dreamfar High School Marathon training program - We need volunteers to help staff the long run water stops, to help point runners in the right direction, and generally cheer the runners on.

RELAY FOR LIFE

Description: The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement symbolizes hope and our shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love. If cancer has touched your life, participating in a Relay For Life event is a way to take action and help finish the fight.

Description of project: The goal of this year's Wheelock World Service Day in Sarasota is to connect Wheelock alumni with young children for the purpose of encouraging early literacy. Alumni will be asked to bring a children's book appropriate for infants and/or toddlers. Following a brief overview of the program, alumni will join one of the nurseries and read their books to individual children or small groups of children. The book will be left in the nursery as a donation. Refreshments will follow.

MATTAHUNT COMMUNITY CENTER CLEANUP

ROSIE'S PLACE

Description: With your help, we can prepare and serve a nutritious meal to 150 women in Rosie's dining room. Rosie's Place staff helps your group throughout the experience-purchasing the meal's ingredients and leading meal preparations during your visit. In addition, Rosie's is always looking for groups to do a Toiletry and/or Food Drive. Groups either collect or purchase food and toiletry items to be used in various programs at Rosie's Place. Toiletry kits can be bundled and created off-site as a team building activity or items can be delivered separately.

BOSTON AREA RAPE CRISIS CENTER WALK

Location: DCR's Artesani Park (1255 Soldiers Field Road, Brighton)
Description: BARCC's 40th Anniversary Walk for Change - Nearly 2,000 people are expected to walk 2.6 miles along the Charles River in support of survivor's of sexual assault and BARCC's mission to end sexual violence. There is a city-wide cleanup planned in Havherill, MA, but Wheelock volunteers will be collecting litter around the playground and pond at the Winnekenni Park entrance.  

HORIZONS FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN

Description: Become a Playspace Activity Leader. You will prepare and lead age-appropriate activities, games and/or projects with children in family shelters, young parenting programs, domestic violence shelters, substance recovery programs, community children's centers, and transitional living programs. The program includes 5 hours of initial orientation and training and requires a 6-month commitment. All shifts are held on weekdays between 8am-9pm.

MUDDY RIVER CLEANUP

MAKE-A-WISH TALENT SHOW

Description: Wheelock Rocks The Walk will again be participating in the 20-mile Walk For Hunger. Project Bread's Walk for Hunger brings thousands of people to our state's capital each year to raise money for anti-hunger programs and to promote awareness about the face of hunger in our communities. At the 2013 Walk for Hunger, over 40,000 people came together and raised over $3.6 million! Let's try to break that record! Join the "Wheelock Rocks The Walk" team or donate to the cause.
