Wheelock College Merit Scholarships

First-Year Students:

Wheelock College is offering scholarships to incoming first-year students for the fall of 2008. To be eligible you must apply for admission to Wheelock by the March 1st deadline. If you are accepted and you meet the criteria below, you will automatically receive a merit scholarship.

*SAT requirements combine the critical reading and math scores. All of the scholarships are renewable for the four years you attend Wheelock, provided you maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. and full-time enrollment. Scholarship recipients will be notified two to four weeks after being accepted to Wheelock.

Transfer Students:

Wheelock College offers the following merit scholarship program for transfer students entering Wheelock in the fall of 2008. This is a competitive scholarship.

Dean’s Scholarships ($5,000)

Transfers who have a college G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher in transferable classes are eligible.

To be considered for a scholarship, complete your admissions application by April 15, 2008 – there is no separate application for merit scholarships. The Dean’s Scholarship is renewable while you pursue your Bachelor’s degree at Wheelock, provided you maintain a 3.0 GPA and continuous full-time enrollment starting in the fall of 2008. Scholarship recipients will be notified in early May.

Returning Students:

Returning students are guaranteed to receive the same amount of merit award money that they did their first year at Wheelock as long as they maintain the minimum standards for the award.

Federal Grants

Federal Pell Grant:

Federal Pell Grants are awarded to students pursuing their first undergraduate degree. Awards for 2007-2008 academic year ranged from $400 to $4,310. Award amounts are based on Expected Family Contribution as derived from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who meet the eligibility requirements for the program will automatically be awarded the Pell Grant.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG):

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants are awarded to students who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree and demonstrate exceptional financial need. Priority is given to students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant and who submit the appropriate financial aid applications by the Wheelock priority filing deadlines.

State Grants

MassGrant:

MassGrants are awarded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to undergraduate residents of the Commonwealth who do not posses a prior bachelor's degree. Students must complete the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA by May 1, 2008 to meet the Commonwealth’s filing deadline.  For the 2007-2008 academic year, award amounts ranged from $300 to $2,400.  MassGrants are awarded according to the student's Expected Family Contribution as derived from the FAFSA (or Renewal FAFSA) and verified by Wheelock. Additionally, students must be enrolled as full-time (12 credit hours per semester) students.

Gilbert Grant:

Gilbert Grants are awarded to full-time undergraduate students who are residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. To be considered for this award, students must apply for assistance by the priority filing deadline and demonstrate financial need.

Massachusetts Part-Time Grant:

Students must complete the FAFSA (or Renewal FAFSA), be eligible for the federal Pell Grant program, be a resident of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and be enrolled in between six and 11 credit hours per semester to be considered for this program.

Other State Scholarships:

Other states such as Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont offer scholarships to qualified applicants who file the FAFSA (or Renewal FAFSA) by their proscribed deadlines.  Please refer to the FAFSA for specific deadline information.
