Q. What types of financial aid does Wheelock
College offer?
A. Wheelock College offers three types
of financial aid:
Q. What is the priority deadline for applying
for financial aid?
A. First time students attending Wheelock
in Fall of 2008, whether Freshmen or Transfer Students, should file
by February 15th, 2008. All returning students should file by April
15th, 2008.
Q. What is Wheelock College's Federal School
Code for the Free Application for Federal student Aid (FAFSA)?
A. Wheelock College's Federal School
Code is 002228.
Q. Is the FAFSA the only form I need to submit
to receive financial aid from Wheelock College?
A. Filing the FAFSA is the first step
toward receiving financial aid. Often this is all students need to
do, but occasionally Wheelock will need to request additional documents
such as copies of Federal taxes or Dependent Verification forms.
Q. What happens after I complete the FAFSA?
A. Your information is processed by a
central processing center and data is sent electronically to the schools
that you select, as well as to state grant programs. You will receive
a SAR (Student Aid Report) via e-mail if you apply online, or via
mail if you file the paper version. The SAR is a summary of what you
reported on the FAFSA. It is your responsibility to look this over
very carefully and review it for any possible problems or errors.
Q. What happens if I am selected for
verification on my FAFSA/SAR?
A. If you are chosen for verification
on your FAFSA/SAR and are considered a dependant student you must submit
a completed copy of the Verification
Worksheet and signed copies of both student and parent 2007 federal
tax returns. If you are an independent student you must submit a completed
copy of the Verification
Worksheet for Independent Students as well as a signed copy of
your 2007 federal tax returns.
Q. When should I receive my financial aid
award from Wheelock College?
A. The Office of Financial Aid will offer
a tentative award in early March to all accepted students who have
a valid processed FAFSA on file. Returning students will be awarded
after spring grades are posted.
Q. Does Wheelock College need any tax documents
to determine my eligibility for financial aid?
A. In most cases the FAFSA is enough
to determine your eligibility. In some instances students will be selected
for verification by the government, and additional documentation will
be required. In this scenario we will generally request signed copies
of the parent and student federal tax forms (1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ).
Q. When will I be notified if I am the recipient
of a Wheelock College Merit Scholarship?
A. Scholarship recipients will be notified
two to four weeks after being accepted to Wheelock.
Q. Is my Wheelock College Merit Scholarship
renewable all four years?
A. Yes, as long as you maintain a 3.0
cumulative G.P.A.
Q. Will I get the same amount of aid for all
four years at Wheelock College?
A. Yes, provided there are no significant
changes in the family's earnings. Each year, in order to receive financial
aid, you must file the FAFSA form. Major changes in income or assets
may affect need-based portions of aid.
Q. What happens if there are significant
financial changes in my family?
A. We encourage you to communicate any
unforeseen changes in your financial situation as soon as they happen.
Many of these situations will result in changes in your aid in subsequent
years, but we will review your aid package at any time to make necessary
adjustments.
Q. Are there jobs on campus for students?
A. As a part of your financial aid award
you may receive Federal Work-Study. Work-study positions are available
throughout the campus and with several non-profit agencies close to
campus. These positions are part-time (10-14 hours per week) and are
meant to provide additional income for books, supplies, pizza, etc.
There are also other jobs available that are not work-study on or
near the campus.
Q. How do students get these jobs?
A. Wheelock College hosts a part-time
job fair on our campus the first week of school. Students can meet
both work-study and non-work-study employers and interview for a position
on the spot. If students are unable to attend the fair they can contact
the Office of Financial Aid for a listing of available positions.
The more flexibility a student has with their schedule the easier
it is to find a position.
Q. Where can I find outside scholarships?
A. You can ask your high school guidance
office, employers, local libraries, civic groups, and community organizations,
and web search engines such as www.fastweb.com.
Q. If I have any questions regarding the
financial aid process who should I contact?
A. You should contact the Office of Financial
Aid at (617)-879-2206 or (800)-734-5212.
