Dedication. Excellence. Inspiration.

The Wheelock College Honors Program welcomes students who especially want to:

  • Dedicate themselves to intellectual growth
  • Assume the role of academic leader
  • Strive for excellence in scholarship

Dedication

The Wheelock Honors Program is a place where your dedication to learning, thinking, and action finds a home. As a student in the Honors Program, you will take eight honors-designated courses. Honors courses challenge you to engage with sophisticated concepts and current research. They challenge you to put your new knowledge to use. After completing honors coursework, you will undertake an independent project under the mentorship of a faculty member. This independent project can take many forms—from documenting your service learning trip in a photojournalism project, to exploring a theme in history, to analyzing the results of research data. The independent project is an ideal opportunity to dedicate yourself to the exploration of a topic or issue that fires your imagination.

Excellence

The Wheelock Honors Program helps you to achieve excellence in your academic work. Your professors are experts in their fields, and they recognize that your pursuit of excellence demands not only hard work but encouragement, high expectations, and wise guidance. The Honors Program gives you the opportunity to produce work and thinking that exceeds your own expectations for excellence.

Inspiration

Wheelock students inspire positive change in the world. In the Honors Program, we invite you to take part in the professional and public dialogues that significantly and positively impact the lives of children and families. In addition, you will work with your peers to organize forums to inspire the College community. Finally, you will be put in the position to inspire your peers to strive for intellectual growth. This is because Wheelock honors courses are distinctive in welcoming all students who wish to challenge their intellectual, creative, and practical intelligence. As an Honors student, you may have the opportunity to present your senior Honors Project at national and local conferences with supervising faculty members.
