Undergraduate Academic Programs
Wheelock College seeks and educates undergraduate students who want to make a difference for children and families as the way to create a better world. At Wheelock, undergraduate education fosters the transformation of the whole person through a combination of intellectual, creative, and practical real-world learning experiences. You will take part, individually and collaboratively, in a cohesive First Year Experience and general education courses. You will also choose either the Social Work major, or one of five multidisciplinary Arts and Sciences majors, and may also complete a professional concentration in Education, Child Life, or Juvenile Justice.
Your
arts and sciences education at Wheelock will provide you with a strong
foundation for lifelong learning and help you understand the underlying
beauty, interconnections, and methods of inquiry that characterize
the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Our general
education program and arts and sciences majors offer you a path
to become a thoughtful, flexible, and informed individual and also
create a solid base from which you may pursue graduate study in the
academic disciplines or any other field. We are also proud of how we
connect arts and sciences to the professions
– a distinctive part of a Wheelock education.
Wheelock's excellent professional programs prepare students to be early childhood, elementary, and special education teachers; social workers; child life specialists; and juvenile justice advocates. All students receive a strong foundation in human development as an integral part of their First Year Experience, regardless of what major or professional program they pursue. Classroom experiences are connected to field/clinical placements, and programs focus on helping you learn to react to and learn from differing contexts and situations. Wheelock meets and exceeds state and national academic standards, and our graduates are highly sought after by employers.
