Undergraduate Professional Concentration in Elementary Education
Prepare to teach elementary age children (Grades 1 through 6) in public and private schools. This concentration leads to eligibility for Massachusetts Department of Education Initial Licensure (and reciprocity with other states). Students design, implement, and assess the effectiveness of curriculum in relation to the developmental and cultural needs of children, families, and society.
Exciting Curriculum
Students in the Elementary Education concentration study the foundations of education, theories and methods of teaching in inclusive classrooms, and curriculum development. Hands-on experience begins in a student's first semester with their Human Growth and Development class and field placement, and continues through their senior year with a semester-long student teaching practicum.
Students who concentrate in Elementary Education also choose an Arts and Sciences major. Choices include: The Arts, American Studies, Human Development, The Humanities, and Math and Science.
