Advanced Professional Course Cluster in Special Education
This 12-credit course cluster in special education develops expertise in teaching children with exceptional learning needs in diverse settings. For teachers who already hold a master’s degree and an initial teaching license, this group of courses is designed to be used to move an initial license in early childhood education, elementary education, and ESL to professional status. (Pending final approval by the Massachusetts Department of Education in 2006-2007).

Coursework
Courses in this Advanced Professional Course Cluster address topic areas in content areas including the impact of various disabilities and their impact on learning and development, curriculum design for children with special needs, and assessing academic, social and behavioral domains of children’s learning. Two pedagogical courses are also offered, addressing assistive technologies and managing behavior.
