Post-Master's Programs
Within the School of Education and Child Life, Wheelock offers several post-master’s programs, including:
- Advanced Professional Course Cluster in Reading (non-degree)
- Advanced Professional Course Cluster in Teaching ELL/ESL (non-degree)
- Advanced Professional Course Cluster in Special Education (non-degree)
Wheelock's Advanced Professional Course Clusters
The 12-credit Advanced Professional Course Clusters provide routes to Professional licensure for teachers who currently hold both a master's degree and an Initial license in the areas of Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Education, English Language Learners or English as a Second Language. These course clusters can also be used to satisfy professional development requirements or to prepare to add a new license in Special Education or ESL.
Special educators with initial licensure would choose either the Reading or ELL/ESL course clusters, not the special education cluster. ELL/ESL teachers with initial licensure would choose either the Reading or the Special Education program, not the ELL/ESL cluster.
Current PreK-8 and middle school teachers who hold a Professional license in a number of areas may want to enroll in any one of the three 12-credit course clusters for a cohesive, professional development package that satisfies the PDP requirement for more than one 5-year renewal cycle.
Teachers who wish to add a Special Education or ESL license would
also benefit from the appropriate course cluster for content and expertise
that will ensure more successful teaching under the new license. Adding
the license area requires a teacher in Massachusetts to pass the additional
subject test, but these courses will help that teacher to have superb
preparation beyond licensing – ensuring success in the new area
of teaching
