BS, Elementary Education, University of Vermont

Shoshanah Starr Collins (Shoshy) taught for 13 years in the elementary classroom in both special and regular education settings. She has been teaching at Wheelock for nine years in both the elementary and special education departments. She is also an educational consultant providing professional development and coaching in math, literacy, and special education in schools all over Massachusetts.
Shoshy is most interested in developing the right atmosphere for all learners to be successful; no matter the age of the student. Her students experience learning in the college classroom much the way her students did at the elementary level where they are asked to make observations, ask questions, and think deeply about their own learning. She enjoys learning and teaching about HOW students come to understand, what circumstances need to be in place for this to happen, what supports they need, and what can get in the way of developing a deep understanding. She has an interest in many content areas which is apparent in the range of classes she teaches. She has taught Understanding Reading Difficulties, Elementary Math, Math for Diverse Learners, Curriculum Development, and Practicum Seminar in both the elementary program and IESE programs at Wheelock. Shoshy also chairs the IESE Masters program in the summer.
