Overview:
This course will explore the role of humor in children's development. The structure of humor, as well as its social, emotional, cognitive and cultural dimensions, will be examined. Child development theories and research in the field of humor will be reviewed. Students will investigate (1) developmental differences in children's creation, comprehension and appreciation of humor and (2) the practical applications of humor to promote learning and foster a sense of well being in children in a variety of settings and situations (e.g. home, classroom, hospitals, playground, center-based, etc.).
