Course to CollegeCourse to College & Career classes are tailored specifically to adult learners, especially those who are non-native English speakers. The ideal candidate for this program has conversational English language skills, but will need additional support in order to complete college-level instruction.

Course to College & Career will develop core skills, such as reading and writing, while offering participants an opportunity to gain undergraduate-level college credit. Tutorials and special assignments will improve students’ understanding of the post-secondary education culture.  At the same time, this program will serve as a practical, confidence-building step for students seeking to pursue higher education and career advancement.

Course Title: Reading, Writing, and Telling Life Stories*

Course Description: Students will read, write, and tell stories that reflect personal experience. Students will write and share essays about their personal, community, and professional identities. Upon completion of the course, students will receive feedback about their readiness for college-level coursework. In addition, students will gain proficiency in written and oral interpersonal and professional communication.

Course Title: LIT 170 Introduction to Literature (4 Credits)

Course Description: Introduces students to close reading and critical analysis of literary texts from major genres of literature (lyric poetry, drama, novel, short story). Considers historical context of themes that are adapted, transformed, and rethought at critical moments in literary history.
