There is a common pursuit among Wheelock students: improving the lives of children and families. They arrive with varying levels of experience in serving others, and leave transformed, empowered, and focused for professional success in their fields of choice. A Wheelock education combines a strong liberal arts education with access to nationally accredited professional programs in Education, Social Work, Child Life, and Juvenile Justice and Youth Advocacy. Experiential learning is the cornerstone of a Wheelock education, with 100% of undergraduate students completing at least one internship. Most graduate with two or more professional experiences through internships, practicums, field placements, and international and national service learning.
The marketplace continues to tell us that Wheelock graduates are better prepared, more mature, and more skilled than their peers from other colleges. In many ways, that reflects the wonderful mentoring our students receive from supervising practitioners and faculty who are distinguished leaders. But an important element of that success is in the heart of a young person convinced that while serving others is not going to be easy, they know it will be worth it.
