You can also enhance your career or fulfill your employer's professional development requirements while earning continuing education units (CEUs), professional development points (PDPs), graduate credit, or undergraduate credit.

Professional Development Institutes

PDI 523 Media Literacy: Media Education for the 21st Century

Dates: July 5-8, 2016, 9am - 6pm
Format: One-week, on-campus intensive
Course Description: Examine the profound influence media and media culture are having on children's development, learning and attitudes. Explore media's impact on families, schools, and the wider society. In addition, examine strategies for counteracting the negative impact of media culture's racism, sexism, violence, and commercialism in everyday life through media education, conflict resolution, advocacy, and more. Also explore potential positive uses.
Course may be taken either for non-credit or for 3 graduate or 4 undergraduate credits. CEUs are available.

PDI 554 Supporting Children's Emotional Development in Schools and Communities

Format: Three-day, on-campus intensive, plus an online component
Course Description: This institute has been developed in response to concerns voiced by many teachers and other human service professionals and reports by the Surgeon General, the American Psychological Association and other organizations indicating that 20 to 25% of children in US schools suffer from emotional problems, but frequently do not receive any professional help. Teachers, parents and counselors will gain new tools in their efforts to strengthen children's emotional development in schools and communities.
CEUs are available.
