Optional Entrance Exam to the Intensive Concepts and Processes Sequence
Materials Covered in the Mathematics Entrance Exam
You are allowed to use a calculator on the exam. If you are planning to or thinking about taking the math exam, please bring a calculator with you.
The entry exam focuses primarily on Number and Algebra, but also includes some Geometry and Probability. Some topics covered:
Number: Fractions, Decimals, Percents, Factors, Multiples, Primes.
Name two fractions between 3/4 and 1.
Put the following decimals in order from smallest to largest: 0.04, 0.4, 0.044, 0.44.
Find two fractions, with different denominators, that add to 3/5.
Circle all prime numbers on the following list: 2, 12, 17, 51, 89.
Algebra: Patterns; Connecting Graphs, Equations, and Tables; Solving Equations. Problems that involve matching functions such as y = 2x + 3 or p = 2q to their graphs or tables of values.
Each term of the sequence 6, 8, 10, 12, ... is formed by adding 2 to the previous term. Find the 100th term in the sequence.
Find all that satisfy. x2 + x = x2 - 2x + 9.
