Walk-in advising
Students are expected to schedule regular appointments with their academic advisors.  Walk-in appointments are available with professional advisors.  Advisors will not provide course selection advising during walk-ins.  Walk-in advising is intended for quick questions and is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Walk-in advising meetings are usually 10-15 minutes.

Scheduling an appointment
Appointments usually last 30 minutes and are scheduled through MyCompass by logging in with your email username and password and searching the availability of your academic advisor.

All appointments must be scheduled online at least 24 hours in advance.

Cancellations
We recognize that students may need to occasionally cancel/reschedule appointments.  It is expected that you cancel your appointment on MyCompass at least 24 hours in advance.  If you don't cancel your appointment online and don't show-up you will be noted as a "no-show."

No-show policy
Due to the volume of appointments during peak advising times (the first and last two weeks of each semester and course selection advising), the office has a no-show policy.  If you do not cancel an appointment at least 24 hours in advance and don't show up, you will be noted as a "no-show."  After one no-show during a peak time, you will NOT be permitted to schedule an appointment until after the peak time is over.  This means that you may not be able to select and register for courses on time.  This is not intended to penalize you, but to be equitable to all students and respectful of staff time.

Communicating with Academic Advising
Email is the official method of communicating at Wheelock College. The Wheelock College Student Email Policy requires students to activate and utilize their Wheelock email accounts. The Policy was developed to set standards for communications between the College and its students, to ensure that all students have access to pertinent College information, and to ensure that administration, faculty, and staff of the College have a standardized method and a timely process for communications with students.  It is the student's responsibility to read College email communications on a regular basis and to take action in a timely manner, whenever appropriate (Student Handbook).  Due to privacy regulations, the Office of Academic Advising will only communicate with students through Wheelock College email accounts and the preferred communication method is in-person.

Email Etiquette

  • Always use your Wheelock email account.
  • Always include a subject line such as "Question about my major" in each email.
