Undergraduate Major of Environmental Studies
The degree requirements outlined in this catalog are intended to be used for students entering Wheelock in the 2013-14 academic year.
Environmental Studies Major / B.A. Degree / 36-48 Credits
The major in environmental studies provides students with the foundation required to study environmental issues through an interdisciplinary lens. For their major preparation, students in the B.A. degree program begin by taking the induction course, Introduction to Environmental Challenges, followed by a variety of introductory social science, humanities, and natural science courses. At the upper-division level, depending on their own area of interest, students may choose either a specific or multidisciplinary environmental emphasis by choosing a combination of selective courses within the Environmental Studies Program. Majors are also encouraged to complete either a double major (e.g., Political Science, Communications, Humanities) or minor. Students pursuing the 48 credit major option are required to participate in the Field Studies in Environmental Science (PSC399) in their senior year. This experience may involve an internship, research, or a study abroad course which would enhance their environmental education.
