Pre-Collegiate Programs


The Office of Pre-Collegiate and College Access Programs is part of the Office of Community Partnerships and Programs. The Office of Pre-Collegiate and College Access Programs supports the Office of Community Partnerships and Programs by developing and implementing exemplary, outcomes-oriented youth leadership and development and college and career ready programs.

The Office of Pre-Collegiate and College Access Programs fulfills this responsibility by focusing on its vision, mission, and goals.

Our purpose is to be the premier higher education institution supporting youth to become college and career ready and civically engaged leaders.

Goals

  • Goal 1: Become a center of excellence at college access and success
  • Goal 2: Prepare Mattapan youth to be college and career ready
  • Goal 3: Increase Boston youth engaged in college access and success through leadership and civic engagement
  • Goal 4: Develop a coordinated process to manage Wheelock's Community Service Engagement efforts

Through programs like those below, we hope to radically increase the number of students with the academic skills and college knowledge necessary for college access, success, and ultimately civic engagement in the 21st century.

Urban Teacher Development Pipeline Programs:

  • Teacher Bound Upward Bound is a four-year college access and teacher development program for 50 Boston public high school students.
  • The Eagle Wheelock College Leadership Academy is a unique two-year fellowship designed to provide a pipeline into Wheelock College for young men of color from Boston and NYC who are interested in pursuing a career in education. 

Service and Leadership Scholarships for Boston Area students:

  • The Passion for Action Scholarship Program supports scholars in learning to nurture and apply their passion to become leaders for positive change in their community, their nation, and the world.

Ubuntu in the Works Programs:

  • Academic and leadership programs for pre-college students that strengthen students, their communities and Wheelock.
  • College access programming for pre-college students.
