An Act to Evaluate and Improve Quality Physical Education
Wheelock is advocating for the passage of a new physical education bill in Massachusetts. Passage of this bill would require an evaluation of current physical education standards, practices, and instruction in all grades; establish a Physical Education and Activity Advisory Commission; designate a full-time physical education coordinator for the state; and strengthen existing physical education laws.
Boston Centers for Youth and Families
Trained all Directors and Assistant Directors of Athletics in the 49 community centers in Boston on the topic of gender sensitivity and gender specific programming.
Cambridge Middle School Youth Project
This project supports middle school youth outside of school and over the summer by increasing youth participation in out-of-school-time programs, improving academic success, and promoting health and wellness.
Governor's Committee on Physical Fitness and Sport
Wheelock is a member of the committee and helped develop and review the "Everybody Move" grants, which gave more than $200,000 to local schools for physical activity programs.
Sport-Based Youth Development Certification
Wheelock will offer a professional development certification that is specifically designed for directors and staff of the Boston Centers for Youth and Families-an after-school agency that encompasses 46 facilities throughout the metro-Boston area. This training will help coaches and staff to ensure positive outcomes for the youth involved in these programs.
