Catholic Schools Teacher Cohort

"The Lynch Foundation Early Childhood Project has enhanced the entire program at Quincy Catholic Academy as we believe that the academic, social, and emotional skills developed in our early childhood programs build the foundation of learning upon which efforts in all grades rely. The partnership with Wheelock College enhanced these efforts by supporting our teachers and allowing them to grow professionally and cultivate their skills. This partnership has helped make our good early childhood program great!" - Catherine Cameron, Principal of Quincy Catholic Academy.

Catholic schools have made a significant commitment to improving the quality of Early Childhood Education in their classrooms across the Metro-Boston area. With funding from the Lynch Foundation, Aspire is collaborating with Wheelock's Early Childhood Education Department to enroll PreK-2nd grade teachers from Boston Catholic schools in the Wheelock Master of Science degree in Care and Education in Early Childhood Settings program. In exchange for free tuition (covered by the Lynch Foundation), teachers commit to work for the Catholic Schools for a minimum of three years upon receipt of their masters.

The first cohort of three Boston-area Catholic school PreK-2 teachers and leaders graduated in May with a Master of Science degree in Care and Education in Early Childhood Settings. Due to the success of the program, the Lynch Foundation announced that they will fund additional Catholic School teachers to begin the Master's program in January 2015.

The program is specifically tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of continuing practitioners who want to increase their knowledge of early childhood education and who have already obtained an initial teaching license or have an academic background in early education. As part of the program, participants take concentrated coursework in organizational leadership and in teaching English language learners and children with special needs.
