MASSACHUSETTS TESTS FOR EDUCATOR LICENSURE (MTEL):
Information, Interactive Practice Exercises, and Practice Tests1

IV. Communication and Literacy Skills Practice Test

A. Instructions for taking the interactive practice tests

Grading of the practice tests should be handled by individual institutions that wish to provide this service. To get the best sense of how you would do on the actual exam, we suggest that you do your best to simulate the test conditions. Allow no more than four hours to complete a practice test. If you are planning to take the reading and writing tests on the same morning (experienced MTEL test takers discourage this!), allow yourself no more than four hours to do both the reading and writing tests.

B. Reading practice test

Please make sure you read the instructions above before you begin taking the reading practice test. When you are ready to take the reading subtest, click here to link to the practice test.

C. Writing practice test

Please make sure you read the instructions above before you begin taking the reading practice test. Please note that we cannot duplicate the dictation portion of the writing subtest in written form. When you are ready to take the writing subtest, click here to link to the practice test.
